San Luis Obispo County Votes for Bag Ban!

Congratulations to the forward-thinking San Luis Obispo County Integrated Waste Management Authority for voting to do away with single-use plastic bags throughout the county! As we reflect on the progress made in the reduction of plastic waste in 2011, we would like to officially welcome the following cities and counties to a plastic-bag free 2012, effective today: Los Angeles County (Unincorporated) – Effective today, a previous ban of plastic bags in larger retail stores, spreads to smaller grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores  and food markets.

New EPA Stats Appear Dismal

The latest results from the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the recycling rates for plastic bags, sacks and wrap have been released and they are pretty discouraging. Up until 2005, the EPA listed recycling rates for plastic bags separate from other forms of polyethylene plastics (more about that in a minute).  However, post  2005, the EPA  began to lump the recycling
