Bag Monster Testifies in Front of Portland City Council

In a unanimous vote by the Portland, Oregon City Council, single use plastic bags have been banned from the city of Portland, Oregon.

The Mayor of Portland, Sam Adams, originally introduced the ordinance to the City Council of Portland last year.  He agreed to delay the vote, however, waiting to see if the Oregon State Legislature would pass SB536, a bill which would have banned plastic bags throughout the state.  SB536, however, was stalled in various committees and was not voted upon prior to the end of the legislative term on June 30.
The plastic bag ban could take effect as early as October 15, 2011.
Portland, we salute you!
