According to the Vancouver Sun Alberta will seek a plan to eliminate plastic bag use with a volunteer program.

“The new program will have reduction targets and will be industry-led, according to the Alberta director of the Retail Council of Canada, one of the associations involved in the project.
Peter Pilarski said Alberta’s program will be similar to initiatives announced in recent years in British Columbia and Ontario. While he wouldn’t say what the targets will be, the program in B.C. had pledged in 2008 to reduce the use of plastic bags by 50 per cent in five years.”
